Dignity Health, Mercy San Juan – McAuley Tower and Pharmacy

Debby Matheny, Transition Planner, led the transition planning for Mercy San Juan’s New Patient Bed Tower, which included 110 new patient beds. The project team was heavily challenged with significant construction delays, equipment design revisions, and construction design revisions that impacted planned work flow. Additionally, the California Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD) required design/construction revisions during the last five percent of the construction phase. When Debby was hired to manage the transition from the existing hospital to the New Bed Tower, the project was already behind schedule in preparing for occupancy. She quickly organized the team and positioned them for a successful opening. Debby meticulously tracked all aspects of the transition on a calendar that was published frequently. This was instrumental in providing a smooth process, as it allowed all involved to know exactly what was going to happen and when. Debby’s many hours working with staff and her thorough review of Mercy San Juan’s processes enabled her to adjust the schedule on the fly to accommodate the frequent changes. Her detailed review of Mercy’s processes proved to be integral to ensuring resources were appropriately allocated and delays minimized. Alfredo Saldana evaluated the available spaces on campus and created mini-warehousing areas for equipment to be received in advance of TCO. He tracked all equipment, coordinated the deliveries and installations, managed the crews and ensured adherence to site and hospital requirements. Following each phase of deliveries, Alfredo performed inspections, created deficiency reports and then managed resolution of punch issues.
